BOH Kitchen Shift Lead

Selvedge is currently looking for energetic people to join our back of house team at our new location in the Bellair neighborhood in Charlottesville!

Kitchen Shift Lead Expectations
Full time | 30hrs+ per week
Lead the kitchen during assigned shifts, serving as the point person when the Chef or Kitchen Manager is not present; serve a primary support when Chef or Kitchen Manager are present
Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies, and ensure the rest of the team does the same
Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, portioning meat, preparing sauces)
Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
Uphold recipe standards, portioning, and plating consistency across the shift, correcting course when needed
Lead by example on speed, cleanliness, and food quality, setting the tone for the rest of the kitchen team
Answer, report and follow Chef and Kitchen Manager instructions, and relay direction clearly to the rest of the kitchen staff
Coach and support kitchen team members in the moment, helping newer or less experienced cooks stay on pace and on standard
Clean up station and take care of leftover food
Stock inventory appropriately
Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion
Comply with sanitation regulations and safety standards, and hold the team accountable to the same
Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers, especially under pressure during busy shifts
Able to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 or more pounds
Experience:
ServeSafe Certified
Line cook: 1 year
Restaurant: 1 year
Prior experience leading or mentoring other kitchen staff preferred
Reports to: Andre Jackson, Selvedge Kitchen Manager

Compensation
$21-22/hr + tips, base rate determined by experience; opportunity to track to salaried position Tips range from $1.5 - $3 additional per hour, on top of base rate.Supplemental Tip Pool
All hourly employees (both FOH and BOH) will be included in the Supplemental Tip Pool. This pool is made up of supplemental tips provided by Selvedge patrons over the 15% service fee, accumulated daily, allocated based on hours worked, and distributed via paychecks.Benefits

Selvedge Operating Hours
Sunday - 12pm-9pm
Monday & Tuesday - 3pm-9pm
Wednesday & Thursday - 12pm-9pm
Friday & Saturday - 12pm-10pm
Shifts are typically 12pm-8pm and/or 3pm-CL (9:30pm-11pm)
